You will have to learn how to compose and work with macro. Depth plays an important role. Depending on the subject, you have to learn new techniques as well. If you are into insects then you have to learn names and their behaviors.

1. FIND A GOOD SUBJECT

Not every subject is suitable for macro photography. There are some subjects that may not look good when viewing from a closed angle. If the viewers can’t understand then it won’t be worth going to such lengths. This is the problem you have to solve by asking right questions. If a subject is confusing but catches the eye, it is definitely worth capturing.

2. YOU NEED A LONGER FOCAL LENGTH

When it comes to lens, you might need longer focal length, but depending on the subject. It will help you zoom in when insects or the subject close-in. Nikon Macro lenses don’t have same magnification as Canon, but there are some accessories for Nikon and other brands to extend the lens for maximum reach.

3. DEPTH OF THE FIELD

When you are too closed to your subject and the depth of field is thick. Wide aperture will produce depth of field which can make your image blurry. Stops between f/8 and f/16 are widely used in micro photos. If you shoot at f/8 or more, then you might have to adjust shutter speed or ISO. Experienced photographers will set ISO to low and avoid sensor noise. Shutter speed should be less but enough to fall on sensor. Leave shutter open to produce quality images, and handholding will be impossible, you might have to use a tripod.

4. SHUTTER SPEED OF YOUR CAMERA

Shooting an image at lower shutter speed than usual, means you have to address many things. First is your handshake. Handholding the camera is not a good option. Low shutter means you have to pay attention to motion. If you shoot flowers and plants, wind might make your image blur, so you’ll have to use a wind block.

5. TRIPOD FOR MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY

Many of your issues with macro photography can be solved with a tripod, it can help you stabilize your shots. You can use a trigger or set a timer for images. Depending on your subject, it can help you get a good photo under right conditions. Follow these tips to show everyone the tiny world you love so much.
