After the announcement of SJCAM 4000 the action camera industry has now been revolutionized. It quickly gained the attention of all adventure seekers because if it’s low price and promising performance. Recently the SJCAM Company has introduced a successor known as the SJCAM 5000.
The Model differencehe 4000 only cam with 2 models in it, the one with Wi-Fi and one without, and there was no other difference between them. The SJCAM 5000 has 3 distinctive models. First one being the SJ5000 (No Wi-Fi), second one being the SJ5000WiFi and the third being a SJCAM 5000 Plus.
The large scale confusion to hit the fans is that whether or not to upgrade from a SJ4000 to a SJ5000. To be fair there are some major changes but also a major price difference. The SJ4000 has an integrated Chip of Novatek 96655, and so does the SJ5000 and Sj5000 Wi-Fi. The SJ5000 Plus comes with an integrated Chip of Ambarella A7LS75. When it comes to the image sensors the SJ400 comes with an Aptina AR0330 whereas all three of the SJ5000s come with a Panasonic MN (SJ5000 and SJ5000 Wi-Fi come with Panasonic MN34110PA and SJ5000 Plus with Panasonic MN34120PA) which means we can expect better image and video quality. Since we have different sensors the SJ4000 provides us with 1080p 30 FPS and 720p and 480p with 30 or 60fps. The SJ5000 and Sj5000 Wi-Fi also provide us with the same recording options. However, the SJ5000 PLUS provides us with the option to go on 60 fps at 1080 for slow motion, which is phenomenal for a cost effective camera. Not only does it give a 60fps at 1080p, but also a 120fps recording at 720p and 240fps at 480p for the ultimate slow motion videos.
The SJ4000s take pictures at 12 megapixel while the basic Sj5000s take pictures of 14 megapixels. Quiet evidently the Sj5000 Plus dominates this comparison with a 16 megapixel resolution. The SJ4000s and SJ5000 Plus have a compact screen on 1.5” While the basic SJ5000s have a screen of 2”.
Although All SJCAM models are very pleasing and offer phenomenal performances. For anyone who is new to action cameras and is low on budget should go with the nifty SJ4000s. For those who are willing to spend a little more buying or upgrading to a Sj5000 , the SJ5000 PLUS, even though is double the price is complete worth it. It’s not only double in price, but also in features, no other SJCAM features such amazing slow motion videos (they always come handy). SJ CAMs ALL THE WAY !
